el Prado :It is one of the most beautiful museums of Madrid which offers a impressive collection of works, more particularly of European paintings of the XIVth century to the beginning of the XIXth century. You will be able to contemplate the works of the great painters of those times such as Diego Vélasquez, Francisco Goya, and Jerome Bosch Greco, Pierre Paul Rubens, Raphaël, Botticelli, Rembrandt,… the principal building was built under Charles III. In 1868, the State nationalized the museum and the close buildings were built-in since 1918.

Thyssen-Bornemisza museum: The Palace of Villahermosa shelters the collection of the Baron Thyssen-Bornemisza, which is regarded as the most important private collection of the XXth century. To last, Titien, Goya, Degas, Renoir, Kandinsky or Rothko are only some examples of the works that you will be able to admire inside the museum; works which date from the XIIIth to the XXth century.

Reina Sofia: The Museum, shelters the most important collection of Spanish contemporary art, inside a building of the XVIIIth century. A whole collection of works which go from the end of the XIXth century to nowadays, from Picasso to Rembrandt, but you will be also able to admire many very varied temporal exhibitions.

Royal Palace (Palacio Real): It was about the official residence of King of spain, located in the center of Madrid but nowadays the actual king Juan Carlos, and its family are staying at the Palace of Zarzuela apart from Madrid.The palace was built between 1738 and 1755 under Philippe V and was inhabited by the King Charles III in 1764. the total surface is 135,00 m ² including 870 windows, 240 balconies, 44 staircases and 110 doors. The plans of the palace were drawn by Juan Bautista Sachetti with the collaboration of Ventura Rodriguez, Sabatini, and Father Scirmiento.

retiro: The park of the retiro is one of the biggest parks of Madrid, with 118 hectares. At the XVIIth century, the park was the place of walk of Philippe IV and opened his doors to the public in 1869. The park has the nickname of the “lung” place where the inhabitants of Madrid can come to slacken. At the Northern entry of Retiro, you can see la Puerta de Alcalà set up by Charles III. It is about a traditional triumphal néo arch out of granite whose construction began in 1769 and ended 9 years later. |
