La gastronomy :
The Basque country offers a large diversity of traditionnal dishes: The best restaurants, the tapas-bars and the cider-houses, you have a broad choice to lunch/have dîner and everything is of good quality. For example, the town of Sebastien Saint has the greatest density of Michelin stars in a square meter of the world. The food is amazing there, they respect the tradition. There is for all the tastes: fish, meats, but always prepared very well and with a lot of taste. Concerning the wines,those of the “Rioja alavesa” could be considered as one of the best wines of the world. According to time's spent in the barrels of oak, the red wines can be indexed as a “crianza”, “reserva” or “gran reserva”. The indigenous drink is Txakoli, wine white, young, fresh and fruity . But we cannot obviously forget the cider, which you can taste in the cider-houses!
Basque:
The Basque language is spoken by approximately 40% of the inhabitants living in the Spanish Basque Country. Nevertheless, the Basque remains one of the rare languages of Europe, only 24% of the inhabitants of the Spanish Basque Country are of Basque mother tongue.
Basque danse:
It is about a dance in circle, or in chain. This traditional dance, is one of the main characteristics of the Basque culture. The Basque dance is obviously present at the time of the popular ceremonies, festivals, religious festivals. Don't miss the occasion to see one of them. Even if the Basque dance is a traditional dance, it also evolved, and nowadays, we can notice different types of basque dances with a style more or less contemporary.
Bertsularisme:
It is about a very old Basque tradition where it consists in versifying a topic, by respecting the rate/rhythm and the melody; although this tradition also existed in other areas of the world, the phenomenon also took place in the Basque Country a surprising width in the taverns, the cider-houses, all the places of meeting.
